Dear Parents,
We are so close to the end of term and yet more still to look forward to. The weather last week clearly had an impact on several things and we’ll keep our fingers crossed that no other events suffer from what appears to be becoming an increasingly common feature of our Summer terms.
BBQ AND TRIATHLON
Despite the worst the weather could throw at us all the event went ahead
and was clearly enjoyed by all those who came along and in particular the
children who took part in the triathlon. Once again Deborah and Andrew organised
a fantastic course, tailored to the conditions, and with the help of several
volunteers the races went off smoothly and without any problems. The hardworking
PTA put on a fabulous BBQ and refreshments and all in all it made for a
pleasant, if very wet, evening. We are still awaiting the results of the
triathlon and will notify you of them in the final newsletter next week.
YEAR 6 PRODUCTION
What a performance we witnessed last Thursday as Year 6 wowed us all with
their performance of ‘Gel’. The acting, singing, dancing, choreography
and stage management was first class and the parents who came to see it
were all suitably impressed by the quality of a performance by children
still in Junior School. My thanks to Mrs Whiteley and Miss Smith for inspiring
the performers to such heights and to Mrs Barley and Mrs Jackson for all
their hard work in creating such fabulous scenery and props and most of
all the children for delivering such a great show at the end of an incredibly
long and hard working term. I think we should be watching the West End for
a few of these faces in the future!
HOBBIES DAY
It was great to see the many, and varied, interests and pursuits our children
have out of school on display throughout the school and to see many visitors
here to look at the stands and take the opportunity to talk to the children
involved. The event is now in its third year and goes from strength to strength
and plans are already being formulated to make it even bigger and better
next year. Thank you to all the parents who supported their child in bringing
in and then collecting the various items they wanted to show and to all
the children for their enthusiasm in showing us all their hobbies. Finally
thanks to Miss Bicker for the many hours of work that went into organising
such a fabulous event for the children.
YEAR 6 GO BOUNCE CRAZY
Year 6 pupils enjoyed a day of ‘bouncetastic fun’ as they reaped
the rewards of their efforts during Mini-Enterprise Week. Half of all profits
made went into a fund for the children to reward themselves with a day of
inflatable pursuits which included an assault course, sumo wrestling, a
giant slide and pole jousting. Both the children, and teachers who snuck
in for a quick bounce, enjoyed the day with Hayden Beakhouse and Amy Ashington
winning cups in the sumo challenge event.
YEAR 6 AWARDS EVENING AND LEAVERS’ ASSEMBLY
Year 6 parents are invited to join us for both these events to mark their
child’s move on to secondary school in September. On Monday evening
our Awards Evening will include opportunities to witness some of the children’s
talents at first hand as well as the presentation of awards for the citizenship
scheme, sports leaders and the annual school cups. A party for the leavers
will be held directly afterwards and parents are invited to join the PTA
for light refreshments after the awards.
On Wednesday 23rd at 1.45pm our Leavers Assembly will be hosted by Year 6 pupils as they say their goodbyes to the school and cast their minds to the future. As ever it will be a mix of music, memories and no doubt a few laughs as the children reflect on their four years with us. We hope that their parents will be able to join us.
REPORTS
Thank you to all the parents who took time to write such positive comments
and your expressions of appreciation on their report return slips. It really
does make a difference to the teachers to know that not only have you read
the report but that you appreciate the work that goes into writing the reports
and the hard work that they have put in during the year.
UNIFORM
Thank you to everyone who got their orders in on time and you are reminded
that jumpers and ties will be available for collection form the school (Dining
Room) on the mornings of September 1st and 2nd (our INSET days). We can’t
wait to see the children returning to school in the new uniform so please
ensure all items are labelled clearly with their names as we would like
them to stay looking smart and fully attired for the whole year.
OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT DAY
A reminder to all parents who have volunteered to help out on Saturday 26th
July with the first part of our project that we will be gathering at school
around 9.00am to start the work. Whether you’ve volunteered to paint,
assemble or clear the environmental area we are most grateful for your support.
If you have any tools or equipment that could help you in your task please
bring them along and remember how ever much time you are able to give on
the day it will be really appreciated. It’s also not too late to join
in so if you can come along and help Miss Bicker and her volunteers please
do so and we’ll find you something to do that will help improve our
school environment for all the pupils to enjoy next year.
LOST PROPERTY
All items of lost property currently held in school will be available for
scrutiny by parents on the lower school playground on the afternoons of
Monday and Tuesday next week (3.30-4.00pm). If you believe your child still
has items missing then please come and look as all items left at the end
of term will be recycled or thrown away. Of course all named items will
be returned to their owners.
SPORTS NEWS
Our cricket team completed their season with 3 league games in 3 days starting
with a convincing 100 run win against Farnham Common. All eight players
chipped in with the hat-trick by Jack Taylor (4 wickets in total) and Daniel
Heaney’s 25 runs off 16 balls proving the stand out displays. Our
second match was a close affair with Gerrards Cross with the outcome saved
to the final ball as our opponents pinched a 1 run victory after our bowlers
had fought back from what looked to be a lost cause with 6 overs to go.
The final match against old rivals St Peter seemed to be a game too far
for the boys who looked jaded and a little battle weary, losing a total
of 12 wickets (equating to 72 runs) during their 16 overs. Despite this
they pushed St Peter all the way and a flurry of boundaries by Paul Plested
and Robbie Murphy near the end almost turned the tide but ultimately to
no avail. Overall it’s been a positive season with some great play
by the boys, and let’s not forget they won the Lords Taverners County
Cup so they should be proud of their achievements this season.
Our athletics team completed their season at Handy-Cross on Thursday in a track only event against other schools in our liaison group. It was disappointing to see some of the schools fail to show but our runners demonstrated their progression this season by winning the event, just beating Gerrards Cross by just 5 points after some great races. There were some fantastic individual wins and our relay teams were much slicker than we’ve seen before and cheered on by lots of parents who kindly helped get the runners to and from the venue our athletes did themselves and the school proud throughout the morning.
A new venture saw two Year 5 teams take on Robertswood in a mini-rounders
tournament last week. Both teams played really well finishing in 2nd and
3rd places with CSG2 just missing out on an overall win after being beaten
by ½ a rounder in the deciding match against Robertswood 1. Well
done to all 18 players who represented the school and we hope to set up
a rounders league next year following the success of this event.
