PA Newsletter

As we near the end of term, the PA would like to share with you a brief (!!) summary of the events that have taken place since the start of this school year. We also want to let you know how much money has been raised, any purchases that have been made and dates of forthcoming events.

CHRISTMAS FAIR
Seems a long time ago now doesn’t it? The Christmas Fair is the PA’s biggest annual event and this year we tried some new ideas for the stalls, whilst still keeping many of the all-time favourites. The atmosphere around the halls, the Café and the Year 6 activities was great. We hope everyone enjoyed it and hope to see you all there again in Dec ‘08. Many thanks to everyone who came, helped, bought & sold as the Fair raised an amazing £5,201.00.

HOT DOG LUNCH
The last Hot Dog Lunch (Dec 07) proved very popular with the children. We guess it must have been the delicious sausages from our local butcher. After munching their way through over 300 sausages the children raised £239.00. The PA now hope to provide a ‘lunch‘ at the end of each term – to save you having to think about lunch boxes for at least one day per term and, these lunches are something the kids really look forward to. Other suggestions have been a Pasta Lunch and a Jacket Potato Lunch which the PA will consider for the future.
Our next Hot Dog Lunch, for which you should have returned your slips by now, is this Friday 4th April.

QUIZ NIGHT
The ‘colours’ themed night was a great success. Over 100 people enjoyed taking part in a quiz answering many varied and diverse questions on sports, food, music, TV, general knowledge, etc, hosted with their usual wit and flair by Shirley & Bill Heaney.
Winners of ‘The Best Dressed Table’ was Mrs Brown’s, the school secretary’s, table with their idea of different coloured paint tins as hats. And the winners?? Yet again… Mr Tagg & the teachers (oh yes they did!!). The quiz raised a fantastic £1,273.00. This amount was mainly due to the huge kindness and generosity of Harvey & Daisy Sagoo, who not only provided everyone with a fantastic curry but also donated the cost of the food back to the school. A ‘HUGE THANK YOU‘ to you both for this.

THE BIG EGG PUZZLE HUNT
This involved a hunt for puzzle pieces hidden all around the playground. The whole school took part during an afternoon break and each child was rewarded with a small bag of sweets for participating. It proved to be a very close finish as all teams raced to find their last few pieces to complete their puzzles. The winning team members also each received an Easter egg. This was the 1st time we have ever held this event and we hope the children all enjoyed it, chaotic as it was!!

PA PURCHASES
Your help in supporting the School and the PA have meant that we have been able to purchase the climbing wall for the main hall. This helps the children with co-ordination as well as literacy skills. Please have a look at it next time you are in the main hall.
We have also bought new sports kit for the Netball, Rugby, Football and Athletics teams. The children now look smart and confident when attending matches, games and tournaments and feel proud to represent their school. With the swimming pool now removed, it is an ideal opportunity to use the space for something that could really benefit the whole school. The teachers are currently looking at ways to improve the school environment and we hope to donate some of the PA funds into these areas. Another big project that the School is considering is a new music room. We are keen to be involved with this and will be talking to Mr Tagg to see how the PA can help with this project.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARIES
4th April – Hot Dog Lunch
11th July – Family event: Triathlon
(details to follow… just keep the day free so you don’t miss it.)
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas that they would like to pass on to us, please, please get in touch. We really do appreciate any help you can give and we don’t bite!! You can contact us by putting a note in the PA box, emailing us at jandtpreston@yahoo.co.uk or simply speaking to a committee member.

Have a great Easter break,

The PA Committee.
